CAS Agreement with Brazilian Universities
CAS Agreement with Brazilian Universities Expands Access to SciFinder ScholarTMColumbus, Ohio, October 23, 2006 - Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) has announced the continuation of an agreement with the Brazilian Ministry of Education CAPES group to provide the SciFinder Scholar research tool to a consortium of universities throughout Brazil. SciFinder Scholar and the renewed agreement will be featured at a special event in connection with the Seminario Nacional de Bibliotecas Universitarias (National Seminar for University Libraries) in Salvador, Brazil, during the week of October 23. In the third year of the CAS agreement with CAPES, more than 150 Brazilian academic institutions have made SciFinder Scholar available to university students and other academic researchers, permitting them to explore CAS' world leading databases of chemical and related scientific literature, patents and chemical substances. This important group of universities joins hundreds of other schools around the world now providing science students and faculty with SciFinder Scholar. "We are delighted that the Brazilian Ministry of Education has chosen to continue providing access to CAS databases through SciFinder Scholar," said Dr. Catharina Maulbecker, CAS vice president, marketing and sales. "As so many others have done at universities around the world, Brazilian students will find SciFinder Scholar makes the exploration of scientific databases easy to use, enjoyable and productive in their research." SciFinder was created with the vision of providing scientists easy, point-and-click access to chemical information. The new intelligent research tool for the desktop was an immediate hit with scientists, assisting them and other researchers worldwide with access to the multidisciplinary CAS databases. Today, scientists at pharmaceutical, biotech and chemical companies around the world use SciFinder as "part of the process" in their daily work to explore research topics, browse scientific journals and stay up-to-date on the latest scientific developments. SciFinder Scholar was introduced in 1998 to give students and academic researchers the benefit of SciFinder technology for higher education in the sciences. CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society, provides the world's largest and most current collection of chemical and related scientific information, including the most authoritative database of chemical substances, the CAS RegistrySM. CAS combines these databases with advanced search and analysis technologies to deliver the most complete, crosslinked and effective digital information environment for scientific research and discovery, including such products as SciFinder, SciFinder ScholarTM, STN, STN Express, and STN AnaVistTM, among others.
