Syngene Expands Ongoing Relationship with CAS to Provide SciFinder to All Its Scientists

SciFinder offers Syngene scientists access to broad chemistry coverage, global patent information

BANGALORE, India (August 29, 2011) - Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), the world's leader in chemical information, announced today that Syngene International, an internationally reputed contract research organization and subsidiary of Biocon Limited, India's largest biotechnology company, has signed a three-year contract to provide its scientists unlimited access to SciFinder, CAS' award-winning chemistry research tool.

SciFinder offers Syngene the scope and depth of chemistry required by scientists in today's global enterprises. With daily updates to database content, SciFinder supplies Syngene scientists with the timeliest information available to help them advance their research.

Using SciFinder, all Syngene scientists have access to the CAS REGISTRYSM, the world's largest collection of disclosed chemical substance information, now totaling more than 61 million unique small molecule substances.

SciFinder also provides Syngene scientists with access to global patent information, enabling quick and reliable searches to help them identify research options and make more novel breakthroughs.

"SciFinder is a critical tool that ensures our scientists have the broad range of global chemistry information needed to accelerate research, enable our customers' growth and ensure we remain competitive," said Dr. Manoj Nerurkar, Head of Small Molecule Discovery & Development at Syngene. "CAS is an invaluable partner for our ongoing success in a dynamic global marketplace."

Syngene scientists will also benefit from SciPlannerTM, a new SciFinder feature that enables scientists to more quickly identify synthesis options for designing the best research pathways and approaches.

"With an average of 1.8 million new substance registrations originating from global patent applications each year, it is more important than ever that research scientists have access to databases that reflect a commitment to surfacing novel chemistry from all sources, not simply from one set of journals or from limited patent coverage," said Christine McCue, vice president of Marketing at CAS. "The scope, depth and reliability of chemistry information provided by the CAS databases through SciFinder are unmatched. We are proud to expand SciFinder access to all scientists at Syngene for synthesis and their full range of chemistry research needs."
