Take advantage of new clustering fields, including Technology Indicators (CA index terms), Exemplary/First Claim, all Claims, and International Patent Classification (IPC) Codes.

Perform comparative analysis with ease

The enhanced highlighting of STN AnaVist allows you to highlight as many as 10 different data sets.  Documents associated with key organizations or patent assignees can be highlighted in up to eight different colors at one time. The highlight manager reserves dark gray to indicate research overlap between organizations and light gray to represent the non-highlighted organizations.

  

The eight-color palatte makes it easy to compare the research focus of these organizations.

Gain a more complete understanding of your data

You can create a variety of bar charts and matrixes based on the following data sets - Derwent Class, Derwent Manual Codes, patent country codes/kind codes, patent classifications, patent countries, priority application dates/years, publication year trends, and Technology Indicators, as well as your own personalized labels.

Minutely examining your data from so many viewpoints gives you a comprehensive picture to guide the business decisions of your organization.

Pinpoint the research of your competitors and customers

Enhance your view of the Research Landscape with two new 2D display options offering high-contrast backgrounds to provide greater readability.

    

When you select 2D View (Dark), you are presented with a black background.

A white background results when 2D View (Light) is chosen. 

Note that the highlighting assigned previously to key organizations is preserved and displayed with the CA Technology Terms (CA index terms), providing you with instant insight into the research focus of each organization.

Edit terms faster and easier for clustering concepts

To examine the CA index terms comprising a given cluster in greater detail, you can select the highlighting cursor feature of the Research Landscape. 

Hover the highlighting cursor over a cluster, and you will display the terms and the number of documents that cite them. 

To reduce data scattering, you can use the Term Editor to group similar terms together.  STN AnaVist allows you to perform these tasks with ease by providing split-window access for dragging and dropping terms.

Quickly zero-in on documents important to your research

You have choices when selecting or viewing references in the Documents window. You can view these documents according to the labels you have given them, by their highlighting (assigned to the key organizations) or by a lack of highlighting (gray). 

 

You can even view highlighted documents one color at a time with the Filter icon.

 

You can also view only the documents that are not highlighted.

Easily manage your research documents

You control the contents of the Documents window by taking advantage of the many options for customized document labeling.   You can create personalized labels for each document, then view them by your label categories.  The Documents window has icons for selectively viewing (1) all highlighted documents, (2) only non-highlighted documents, (3) only those documents specified by a "drill down" function, and (4) only documents from one highlighted group (color).  It is easy to keep your research organized with all of these flexible document managing functions.

Save time viewing your research

To view your documents using familiar display formats, you can import your STN AnaVist projects into STN Express, Version 8.2. When you use the Display from STN AnaVist wizard, you can select your favorite display format.  If you prefer to use the Derwent World Patents Index format, you can do that also.

 The wizard offers you a choice between default or advanced display formats. 

 

The advanced display format gives you an additional four choices.  Once you have made your selection, click Display to view your STN AnaVist answers in STN Express, Version 8.2.  Note: There is a fee for displaying CAplus answers in STN Express.

Track costs

STN AnaVist provides you with the option of having an automatic "cost warning" message appear prior to performing certain displays or visualizations so that you can control your costs.  If you have checked the "Issue cost warning" option, you will receive a message such as this when you click Display.
