Finding Papers by an Author of Interest

Introduction

Use CA on CD's Index Browse to locate references to papers published by an author of interest.

Then use
Know the author's name and you want all references published by the author Index Browse

Are unsure of the author's name, such as its spelling or first or middle initials

Index Browse
Know the author's name and how it appears in the database, and you want to limit the number of answers based on research interests Word Search

Find references to papers published by Michael F. Butler.

Preview

Using Index Browse is a two part process:

  1. Locate the author name from an alphanumeric list in the Author Index of a CD
  2. Search the name to retrieve documents published by the author

How to

1. From the tool bar, click Browse.

2. Click the arrow in the Index pull-down menu. Select Author.

3.  Type the last name in the Find entry box.  As you type, the list scrolls to display a portion of the Author Index around the term of interest.

If necessary, locate the name more precisely in the list by:

  • Scrolling the list using the vertical scroll bar
  • Typing the author's first name or initial in the Find entry box, after the author's last name followed by a comma

4.  Select the author name of interest.

 

To select

Do the following
A single author name
  1. Click on the name
A sequential group of author names
  1. Hold down the Shift key
  2. Click on the top and bottom name in the range
A non-sequential group of author names
  1. Hold down the Ctrl key
  2. Click on each name

 

5. Click on the Search button, Search, in the upper-right corner of the Index window.

6. The Search Results window appears.

Note: If there is only one document title, this window is by-passed. Instead, the document record is displayed.

  • Titles may be printed
  • Titles may be saved to disk
  • A document order form may be printed
  • A full record may be displayed

Double click a title to display the full record.

7. The Record window appears.

  • Records may be printed
  • Records may be saved to disk
  • A document order form may be printed
  • Other records may be displayed

Next record Click Next

Previous record Click Previous

Previous
List of document titles

Close the Record window to reveal the Search Results window behind it:

  1. Hold down the Ctrl key
  2. Strike the F4 key

Note: If more than one record has been displayed, repeat Steps 1 and 2 to close each Record window.
