Using Index Browse to Identify Searchable Terms

Introduction

Use Index Browse to

  • Determine if a word or phrase is on the CD
  • Find the exact spelling and punctuation of terms to be searched in Word Search.

Every term that is searchable in Word Search is found in one of the 15 browsable indexes on the CD.

Definition

A searchable term is the form that appears in a CA on CD index. This form is case-insensitive, but must have the spelling (except if Wild Cards are used), spaces, and punctuation exactly as it appears in the index.

Example

Find the searchable form of the name "Steve Abcouwer".

How to

1. From the tool bar, click Browse.

2.  Click the arrow in the Index pull-down menu.  Select an Index.

3. Look for the term of interest.

If you are

Then,
Unsure of where to look for the term in the alphanumeric list Scroll the list with the vertical scroll bar

Jump through the list by

  1. Placing the cursor anywhere in the list
  2. Pressing the Page Up or Page Down keys
Sure of the first letter or more of the term

Type the beginning letter(s) of the term in the Find entry box

As you type, the list scrolls to display a portion of the index around the term of interest
