Synonyms
In the CA database, index is a synonym for field.
Description
An index is a collection of all of the information of a particular type from the records on a CD.
The information in an index is listed in alphanumeric order. Each entry is a searchable term. Terms can be either single words or phrases, depending on the type of index.
Indexes, and descriptions of their content, are given in the following table:

Viewing Index Terms
Use Index Browse to look at the list of terms in an index.
Terms can be searched while in Index Browse to find records containing the term.
Using Search Fields
In Word Search you may specify that a term is to be searched in a specific index (search field).
Targeting a term to a specific search field is beneficial because:
- It assures that CA on CD looks for the information in the most appropriate section of the database
- It results in the most accurate retrieval of information
