Saving Search Strategies

Introduction

Use CA on CD's Query List to save a search strategy (query), created in Word Search, for recall at a later time.

When to Use

Save a search query

  • When searching multiple years of CA on CD or the Collective Indexes on CD-ROM
  • As a current awareness profile, to see what is being published in your area of interest with each monthly update of CA on CD

Saved Query File

Search queries are saved to the default query file of the open database. The default query file name has the format, databasename.qry.

If, for instance, the 1998 CA on CD database is open for use, then the default query file is ca1998.qry.

Note

Query List saves a search query after the query is created in Word Search.

How to Save a Query

1. From the Word Search dialog box, click savingsearch-1

The Queries - [query file name] window is displayed.

The query file that is displayed is the default file for the current CD, e.g., ca1998.qry.

2. From the Queries - [query file name] window, click Add.

3. Type a title for the query in the Query Title entry box.

Note: CA on CD automatically enters a title in the Query Title box. This title may be used as is, or it may be changed by the user.

savingsearch-4

Click OK.

4. The Queries - [query file name] window reappears. Click Close.
