CA Section Groupings

Enrich your research with a slice of CA!

sectgroups

Choose from five CA subsets. You know how valuable Chemical Abstracts can be in identifying the scientific discoveries important to your current research. But your library may not be able to subscribe to the entire content of CA.

Consider CA Section Groupings as an affordable alternative. Each CA Section Grouping:

  • is available in print
  • is published weekly
  • contains
    - the total abstract content of the equivalent sections of CA
    - bibliographic citations
    - a keyword index

Content

When CAS chemists create CA, the references selected from the journal and patent literature are added to one of 80 different CA sections, according to its subject content.

Each of these 80 sections is then collected with related sections to form one of five CA Section Groupings:

  • CA Biochemistry Sections (Sections 1-20)
  • CA Organic Chemistry Sections (Sections 21-34)
  • CA Macromolecular Sections (Sections 35-46)
  • CA Applied Chemistry Sections and Chemical Engineering Sections (Sections 47-64)
  • CA Physical, Inorganic, and Analytical Chemistry Sections (Sections 65-80)

Features and Benefits

Enjoy an affordable alternative. If your library is unable to purchase the entire contents of CA, consider a subscription to that portion of the CA content corresponding to your area of research.

Develop skills for quicker searching. Because CA Section Groupings provide you with a smaller amount of information focused to your interests, they are more manageable and promote quicker searching.

Broaden your access to CA content. CA Section Groupings can be routed throughout your organization making this information available to many researchers, while the full CA collection remains in the library for others to use.

Obtain timely information. Each of the five section groupings is published weekly to provide you with the latest printed information.

Use when searching online. CA Section Code(s) (/SC) can be used when searching the CAS databases online as search terms to focus or expand the answers your retrieve.
