STN Viewer is a web-based workflow productivity tool for patent information users.  It is designed for simple management and evaluation of full-text patent documents from STN Express answer sets.

STN Viewer is the only patent evaluation tool integrated with the high-quality full-text patent databases on STN and the precise searching capabilities and post-processing features of STN Express.

With STN Viewer, you can:

Manage Patents:

• Organize full-text patent documents from STN Express and STN on the Web answer sets - sort and filter document sets and add custom labels, ratings, and annotations to individual documents
• Create custom patent information projects and share them electronically with patent agents, patent attorneys, research scientists, and others

Evaluate Patents:

• Display major sections, the entire full-text patent document, or view the original patent document via ChemPort
• Access publication stage and patent family information, including legal status and designated states
• Locate terms of interest - specify concepts, phrases, and numbers for text highlighting
• Streamline navigation of large patents with the easy-to-use document highlighting map

Accessing STN Viewer

Supported web browsers:

• Microsoft Internet Explorer, Version 6.0 or higher
• Mozilla Firefox, Version 1.0 or higher

To use STN Viewer:

1. Conduct a search in STN Express, Version 8.2 or higher, in one or more patent-containing databases
2. Click an L-number or a patent number from a displayed patent record and select Evaluate with STN Viewer 

When Evaluate with STN Viewer is selected, patent documents are retrieved from STN full-text patent databases and sent to STN Viewer, launched in your default web browser.  You can also create your answer set with STN on the Web and use the STN Viewer Assistant to send patent documents to STN Viewer.

Existing patent projects in STN Viewer may be accessed directly via the web.
