Designating a Text Editor Other Than STN Edit (STN Express 6.0 for Windows)

If you feel more comfortable using a text editor other than the one supplied with STN Express 6.0 for Windows, you can configure STN Express to use that text editor instead.  The setup procedure is quick and easy.

Even if you do not configure STN Express to use a different text editor, you can open STN Express text files (.trn transcripts and .sc scripts, for examples) in any text editor outside of STN Express.  If you edit a transcript, be aware of how STN Express handles graphics in transcripts.

First, launch STN Express so that the Main Menu & Toolbar appear on your desktop as follows.

Step A

  1. Click the Setup menu...
  2. then the Preferences option. A sub-menu will appear.
  3. Click the General... option to open the General Preferences dialog box.

Step B

  1. The Editor box allows you to enter the path of the executable file for your favorite text editor.  By default, this field is blank, meaning that the built-in editor, STN Edit, will be used.
  2. Type the path for the executable of your preferred editor. In this example, we chose to specify the program called notepad.exe found in the winnt folder.
  3. Click OK.

If you have questions about configuring STN Express for use with other editors, please contact CAS Customer Care.
