Free maintenance upgrade for STN Express 6.0 with Discover! for Windows

STN Express 6.0 can help you download free maintenance upgrades for your existing STN Express 6.0 installation. You must have a web browser or FTP program and an active connection to the Internet to download an upgrade.

These instructions explain how to use STN Express 6.0 for Windows and your web browser to download a free maintenance upgrade.  The final upgrade is 6.01c.  If your version of STN Express 6.0 is older (e.g., 6.0d), we recommend that you upgrade.  You can bypass STN Express and go directly to the FTP/download site.  Once at the site, follow the instructions at Step C.

(NOTE: STN Express 6.0 requires QuickTime software from Apple Computer, Inc., for some functions that involved images and graphics.  Follow the instructions at Apple's Download QuickTime web site to install QuickTime player on your Windows PC.)

Free maintenance upgrade: Step A

1. In the main STN Express toolbar window, go to the Web menu.
2. Select your STN Service Center.
3. Select Free Maintenance Upgrades.  Your web browser opens at the CAS FTP site.

Step B: Choose your upgrade option

1. v6.01c.txt contains installation instructions and a list of software changes.  Click to read the file.

• v6.01c.exe includes CAS Registry BLAST.  This will allow searching by nucleotide or protein sequences.
• v6.01c.NO_BLAST.exe does not have the CAS Registry BLAST option and is a smaller file to download.

Both upgrade options include all STN Express changes since version 6.0.  The only difference between the two options is BLAST.

Step C: Download the Upgrade

1. Click v6.01c.exe or v6.01c.NO_BLAST.exe to download the STN Express 6.01 upgrade of your choice.  Your Desktop is a good place to save the file because it will be easy to locate it for Step D.

Step D: Install the Upgrade

1. Make sure that STN Express is not running.
2. Find the file that you downloaded.  Look for a file or icon named v6.01c.exe or v6.01c.NO_BLAST.exe.
3. Double-click the new icon to launch the upgrade installer.  Follow the prompts.  Refer to your STN Express 6.0 Getting Started for details.

Step E: Verify the Upgrade

Start STN Express and check its exact version.  If it's not the version you expect, review steps A - D.
