AB A series of new arylpiperazide derivatives of serotonin has been
    prepared and evaluated as 5-HT-1D receptor agonists. Binding
    experiments at cloned human 5-HT-1Dalpha, 5-HT-1Dbeta, and 5-HT-1A
    receptors show that all the compounds are very potent and selective
    ligands for 5-HT-1D receptor subtypes. Functional activity studies
    (contraction of the New Zealand white rabbit saphenous vein)
    demonstrate that most of the derivatives behave as full agonists.
    Among them, the aryl sulfonamide derivative 5q (pD-2= 8.33 compare to
    5.75 for sumatriptan) was also identified as a very potent agonist in
    inhibiting the forskolin-mediated cyclase coupled to 5-HT-1Dbeta
    receptors (EC-50 = 0.52 nM).

EXAMPLE - use of the AND operator (to search for terms in /BI of the PSTA file) AND

Combining two or more terms with AND retrieves those answers (records) containing each of the search terms.

For example:

                 => S TAMPER AND PACKAGE

STN responds with:    430  TAMPER
		 9454  PACKAGE
                      118  TAMPER AND PACKAGE

The response from STN tells you that:

  • 430 records contain the term TAMPER in the /BI of PSTA
  • 9454 records contain the term PACKAGE in the /BI of PSTA
  • 118 records contain both the term TAMPER and PACKAGE in the /BI of PSTA

EXAMPLE - use of the OR operator (to search for terms in /BI of the PSTA file) OR

Combining a set of terms with OR retrieves all answers that contain at least one of the search terms.

For example:

                  => S TAMPER OR PACKAGE

    STN responds with:    430  TAMPER
		    9454  PACKAGE
                         9766  TAMPER OR PACKAGE

The response from STN tells you that:

  • 430 records contain the term TAMPER in the /BI of PSTA
  • 9454 records contain the term PACKAGE in the /BI of PSTA
  • 9766 records contain either TAMPER or PACKAGE or both in the /BI of PSTA

EXAMPLE - use of parentheses with operators (to search for terms in /BI of the PSTA file)

Search terms and logic operators in a search question are processed in a specific order by STN. For this reason, it is necessary to enclose terms connected by the OR operator in parentheses.

For example:

                     => S TAMPER AND (PACKAGE OR CONTAINER)

        STN responds with:    430  TAMPER
		       9454  PACKAGE
                             4886  CONTAINER
                              199 TAMPER AND (PACKAGE OR CONTAINER)

STN does the operation in parentheses first, then combines it with the TAMPER term using AND logic.

In contrast, without parentheses:

                   => S TAMPER AND PACKAGE OR CONTAINER

   STN responds with:    430  TAMPER
		   9454  PACKAGE
                        4886  CONTAINER
                        4985 TAMPER AND PACKAGE OR CONTAINER

* When parentheses are not used, STN processes the operators from left to right.

EXAMPLE - use of the NOT operator (to search for terms in /BI of the PSTA file) NOT

NOT eliminates all answers containing the search term following the NOT operator.

For example:

                    => S TAMPER NOT PACKAGE

    STN responds with:    430  TAMPER
		    9454  PACKAGE
                          312  TAMPER NOT PACKAGE

The response from STN tells you that:

312 records contain the term TAMPER but not the term PACKAGE in the /BI of PSTA
