Searching text in full-text patent files

Patent Files on STN with full text:

  • EUROPATFULL
    Full text of patent applications (EP-A1, EP-A2) and granted patents (EP-B1) directly filed and published by the European Patent Office (EPO)
  • PATDPAFULL
    Full text of German patent applications, granted patents, translations of European patent documents, and German utility models
  • PCTFULL
    Full text of PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) published patent applications issued under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
  • USPATFULL
    Full text of the original, i.e., the earliest published, granted U.S. patents or U.S. patent applications

How to search full-text patents
Use the Basic Index (/BI) field to search the full text of the patent document, abstract, and title. You may also restrict your search to the claims only or abstract only.

 

Field Field Code Content
Basic Index /BI (optional) Single words from the title, abstract, claims, and description fields
Claims /CLM Single words from the claims
Abstract /AB Single words from the abstract


And, take advantage of the full power of the following proximity operators.

Proximity Operator Function
(W) Terms must be adjacent and in the order specified
(A) Terms must be adjacent, but in any order
(S) Terms must occur within the same sentence
If you do not include an operator between terms, the (W) operator is assumed.
