CA/CAplus, CASREACT, and IFI and USPAT databases enhanced for more flexible patent number searching
United States (US) and World Intellectual Property Organization (WO) patent number searching has been enhanced in the following databases:
- CA/CAplus
- CASREACT
- IFICDB
- IFIPAT
- IFIUDB
- USPATFULL
- USPAT2
- USPATOLD
US patent numbers can now be searched with or without commas and/or spaces. WO patent numbers can now be searched with or without slashes, commas, and/or spaces and with two- or four-digit years.
The enhancement has also been applied to HCA/HCAplus, LCA, LCASREACT, and ZCA/ZCAplus.
CA/CAplus enhanced with printed Chemical Abstracts page images from 1967-1998
Page images from the 1967-1998 issues of printed Chemical Abstracts (CA) have been added to the corresponding records in CA/CAplus. CAplus currency for Korean patents enhanced
CAplus currency has been enhanced for patents from the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO). Bibliographic information and abstracts are now available 14 days from the date of publication or date of availability. When the publication date on the patent document is significantly earlier than the date the patent is made publicly available by the patent office, the date of availability may be used as a date of disclosure.

CAS definition of basic patents expanded to ensure comprehensive access to substance and sequence information
Beginning July 1, 2008, both the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) application and its original national equivalent(s) with oldest priority, from the U.S., Germany, Great Britain, France, Canada, and/or the EPO, are being covered as basic patents in CA/CAplus.
If the first national application with oldest priority was filed in a country other than those listed above, then CAS traditional rule, that the basic is the first patent to arrive at CAS, will apply.
Extensive subject and substance indexing is added to chemistry-related basic patent records in CA/CAplus. With the new expanded definition of a basic patent, the number of patents eligible for basic patent analysis will increase, enhancing overall coverage of chemical substance information in CAS databases, including CAS REGISTRY. Approximately 7,500 additional chemistry-related patent records will be added to CA/CAplus in 2008.
For additional information about CAS databases, refer to the STN Database Summary Sheets.
