CA/CAplus current-awareness alert options enhanced to accommodate supplemental CAS indexing of exemplified prophetic substances
A new Update Date, Addition of Registered Substance (UPIT) option for current-awareness alerts (SDIs), including SMARTracker, is now available in CA/CAplus. This enhancement allows you to automatically retrieve records updated with supplemental CAS indexing of exemplified prophetic substances.
Assignment of a CA Abstract Number typically signals completion of CAS indexing. However, due to the large number of prophetic substances identified in some patents, supplemental indexing after assignment of the CA Abstract Number may be necessary. The new UPIT option specifically retrieves records updated with new CAS Registry Number identifiers, including records updated after assignment of the CA Abstract Number. In addition, the Update Date, Maximum (UPM) option
has been updated to include these records.
To set up an SDI or SMARTracker in CA/CAplus that will include records with supplemental CAS indexing of prophetic substances, select an L-number with your search criteria and:
- Enter SDI or SMART at an arrow prompt (=>).
- Enter UPIT or UPM when prompted for the update field code.
- Answer NO when asked if previously seen answers should be eliminated with each SDI run.
To modify an existing SDI or SMARTracker, enter SDI EDIT or SMART EDIT at an arrow prompt (=>). For assistance, refer to the current-awareness alerts Quick Reference Cards or contact CAS Customer Care.
Enter HELP UPDATE at an arrow prompt (=>) in CA/CAplus for details about additional current-awareness alert options. For additional information about CA/CAplus, refer to the STN Database Summary Sheets.

CAS databases to be enriched with Wiley reaction collections
In Fall 2008, the CAS databases will be enhanced with content from Wiley reaction collections. These evaluated collections represent respected reference works, and inclusion of these reactions will give access to important older reaction information, along with links to Wiley InterScience full-text articles that describe these reactions in depth.
The first collection, Encyclopedia of Reagents for Organic Synthesis (EROS), will begin appearing in CA/CAplus and CASREACT in September 2008. EROS is considered the definitive reference source for reagents used in organic synthesis.
The addition of two other Wiley collections, Organic Syntheses and Organic Reactions, is planned for later in 2008. These collections will further enrich the CAS databases with older reactions, dating back to 1921.
CAS patent coverage enhanced to include exemplified prophetic substances identified in new Japanese-language patents
CAS now covers exemplified prophetic substances in new Japanese-language basic patents. This coverage supplements existing coverage in all new English-, French-, and German-language basic patents.
For more information, visit CAS Coverage of Prophetic Substances.
Additional information about CAS databases is available in the STN Database Summary Sheets.

EMBASE and EMBAL enhanced with new search and display fields
Excerpta Medica (EMBASE) and EMBASE Alert (EMBAL) have been enhanced with new search and display fields:
- Supplementary Term (ST) - Uncontrolled keyword assigned to the document by the author(s)
- Publisher (PB) - Publisher name and address
The ST field is also selectable in EMBASE and EMBAL.
For additional information about EMBASE and EMBAL, refer to the STN Database Summary Sheets.

IFICLS enhanced with new super search field
IFI Current Patent Legal Status Database (IFICLS) has been enhanced with a new Patent Assignee (PASS) super search field. Searching the PASS field simultaneously retrieves all assignee names in the following fields:
- Patent Assignee (PA)
- Patent Assignee, Original (PAO)
- Reassignment Company (RAC)
For additional information about IFICLS, refer to the STN Database Summary Sheet.

WPIDS, WPINDEX, and WPIX coverage of Chinese and Korean patents enhanced
Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI) on STN (WPIDS, WPINDEX, and WPIX) now includes records for Utility Model Registration documents from the State Intellectual Property Office of the People's Republic of China (SIPO) beginning with documents published on October 3, 2007. In addition:
- DWPI deep indexing is now available for Invention Patents and Utility Model records in chemistry- and pharma-related classification sections (A, B, C, D, and E), published from January 2, 2008, to the present
- English translations of claims in Invention Patents (Unexamined Applications) and Utility Models published from July 9, 2008, to the present are now searchable and displayable
WPIDS, WPINDEX, and WPIX also now include records for Utility Models from the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) beginning with documents published in January 2008. These records include full DWPI value-add, including DWPI titles, abstracts, manual coding, and deep indexing for records with significant chemistry content. Additional enhancements for KIPO documents published from January 2008 to the present include:
- Full DWPI value-add for Unexamined and Examined Applications identified as basics, including deep indexing for records in chemistry-related classification sections (A, B, C, and E)
- Searchable and displayable English translations of claims in Unexamined and Examined Applications and Utility Models in the DWPI patent family
- English translations of author, title, and abstract for patents in the DWPI patent family
- Authors, titles, and abstracts included in DWPI First View (WPIFV)
For additional information about WPIDS, WPINDEX, WPIX, and WPIFV refer to the STN Database Summary Sheets.
