50 Millionth Unique Chemical Substance Recorded in CAS REGISTRYSM

CAS announced that on September 7, 2009, that it recorded the 50 millionth substance in CAS REGISTRY, the worlds most comprehensive and high-quality compendium of publicly disclosed chemical information.  The recently registered substance is a novel arylmethylidene heterocycle with analgesic properties.

Reaching the 50 million mark so quickly is an indicator of the accelerating pace of scientific knowledge. CAS registered the 40 millionth substance just 9 months ago. In contrast, it took 33 years for CAS to register the 10 millionth compound in 1990.

For more information, see the CAS press release.

For additional information about REGISTRY, refer to the STN Database Summary Sheet.

WPIDS, WPINDEX, and WPIX now include Japanese FTERM thesaurus

Earlier this year, the Derwent World Patents Index (DWPISM) databases (WPIDS/WPINDEX/WPIX) on STN added Japanese Patent Classification information, including FTERMS (File-Forming Term codes).  Now an FTERM thesaurus has been added to help with navigation of the FTERM codes.

For details, enter HELP RCOD at an arrow prompt (=>) in WPIDS, WPINDEX, or WPIX.

For additional information about WPIDS, WPINDEX, and WPIX, refer to the STN Database Summary Sheet.
